Right there in Volume 1, he’s dating Knives Chau, 17 years old.
And then, wham, bam, thank you subspace, he falls head over heels in love with Ramona.
By the time he finally breaks it off, Knives, 17 years old, is totally hooked.
Now for a while, I attributed Scott’s wussiness to him just failing horribly at relationships. He never asks his friends how their lives are going.
Volume 5 really turned things around and really highlighted the flaws in Scott’s personality. I think it’s extremely brave for Bryan Lee O’Malley to show us the really mean things Scott has done to some of his closest friends.
Volume 6 did an excellent job of showing the consequences of his actions in previous volumes. And I think it elevates the series from just pop culture entertainment to something much deeper.
One of the things I love about them is how much easier it is to get content from a wide diversity of artists than with corporate-created comic books (or even newspaper strips). SFP is a highly entertaining webcomic with a lot of rich, interesting questions to explore. It’s created by Suze Shore, Sarah Zaidan, and Will Brooker. I figured now is as good a time as ever to give my thoughts about the comic series since I’ve yet to see the movie (hopefully tonight! It seemed to be this perfect mix of romance sitcom and fighting game and it all just worked so well.Through the volumes, I saw Bryan Lee O’Malley’s storytelling both visually and narratively grow by leaps and bounds. Oh, and keep an eye out for little cameos and storylines playing out in the crowd scenes. Strong Female Protagonist Ah, a good old-fashioned superhero comic!
The art is gorgeous, the story is compelling, the half-medieval, half-high tech world is a fun juxtaposition, the characters are full of heart, and the comments section is a blast.
Molly Ostertag does the art for the comic, while Brennan Lee Mulligan writes it. Darwin Carmichael is Going to Hell Darwin Carmichael is going to hell takes place in a world with mystical creatures and karmic readouts. He lives with a manticore tween (read: 2000 years old) named Skittles, an artist with a Greek muse girlfriend, and three stoner angels who hang out on his couch.
